I did it last weekend. Very easy process, adds some very cool functionality. TheSimulcast.com is doing a special show on jailbreak this Thursday. You might want to catch it live.

It certainly is up to you, I was in the same spot as you when I purchased my iphone. After I learned that thru jailbreaking, you can do cool stuff like this on your phone, incoming calls plays individually set videos on your iphone, listen to pandora music at the same time surfing the internet, wonderful nice looking themes that doesn't make your iphone look bored and dead, and lots of wonderful stuff that apple should of have included on the iphone, That was when I knew what I should of have done in the first place. :D

I jailbroke my 3G and 3GS .. it was a much better experience on my 3GS because of the speed, and better battery life while being jailbroken. Definitely worth it with the levels of customization you can do.

Another vote here for jailbreaking. I kept my 3GS stock for a few weeks, hmm'ing & haw'ing over the JB. After doing it I can't go back to total stock. SBSettings, themes via Winterboard, Backgrounder, Categories, the list goes on. Redsn0w was a snap.

Once 3.0.1 comes out I'll wait to update until a JB comes out.

Be not afraid. :p

Defintiely worth it! Backgrounder alone is worth it! :)

I just installed Backgrounder and when Ive enabled an App to work in the background I cant switch it off because when i hold down the Home button all I get is the Voice Control application coming up, can anyone help me?

@martcal: also, bring up the app you have running in the background, then depress the Home button. You should get a message "backgrounder disabled" (or something to that effect).

Plus, I gotta correct my post on p.1: I meant to say that when 3.1 comes out I'll wait for the JB before updating. Had a harsh time trying to type - and think - yesterday. Sheesh...

I have a friend who works for AT&T, and he says if you to bring in your phone for servicing or for warranty exchange, Apple can tell that you've jailbroken your phone. Can anyone confirm this?

Any company, any carrier, any phone, any country...the first thing tech support suggests is that you do a restore.

Sure, there are risks involved in jailbreaking or unlocking you iPhone, but you're on the right path by seeking advice in communities such as TiPB.

You may be "on your own" as far as "official" support from Apple goes if you do attempt it, but the reality is that if you carefully research the different unlocking and/or jailbreaking methods, you should be ok. Always prepare for the worst and work for the best. ;)

I just jailbroke my iPhone 3GS again. I love what 3G Unristrictor does for me (Slingplayer and Skype are now available on 3G) and Backgrounder ( lets me use apps in the background).

Go for it. Those apps alone are worth it. IMHO.
