Should I delete my old iPhotos System Library?

So I was able to figure out how to move my iPhotos to an external drive and make it the System Photo Library. Now do I drag the old iPhotos file on my hard drive to the trash can or do I just delete it's contents? If I just delete the contents how do I go about that? I'm a recent windows convert and not used to the macos system. Plus how do I make Finder show the new folder under pictures on the sidebar?

One of the MOST important things NOT to forget!!! That iPhotos NEEDS an external MAC Formatted drive. I have tried many times to make this work but an off the shelf hard drive needs to be formatted for the mac. MOST drives come FAT or NTFS formatted which are not fully compatible to the default mac. I used an external Seagate 2T Backup Plus drive. PLEASE make that an IMPORTANT note onto this process.
