I have short term memory issues and a learning disability, my PDA is my life. I need to replace it and am wondering if the iPhone is easy to use. The other phones look so complicated and maybe to hard for me to use?

Thanks for any help.

I would definitely just wait a few more months until the new iPhone is revealed and released.

Definitely simple to use and as long as you get good AT&T coverage you're set.

I bought an iPhone in early December and have definitely had some complaints. It is a great phone in many, many ways but it has a LOT of issues too. I almost returned it for a restocking fee but decided to keep it. Here is a list of pros and cons as I see it:
Pros:
1. 3GS Internet is awesome. It jumps onto open WiFi networks easily too. I?ve able to log into every secure site (company intranet, etc.) that I?ve tried. YouTube works. [It was very rare that I could do this with my BlackBerry Pearl.]
2. There are a ton of applications. To me this is the best feature. A whole lot of them are free. Most of the ones that aren?t are very inexpensive ($2-$5). [I?ve been getting card games for Free to about $2. On Handango for my BlackBerry I was paying about $15.]
3. It has it all ? Internet, games, built-in iPod, phone, camera, and a powerful computer. It is what I was dreaming of years ago when I had a Palm.
4. You can load a TON of music on it.
5. Touch screen interface works very good. I have an Otter Box case and it still works good inside it. [Get a large leather pouch case to fit Otter Box in and throw away the belt connector that comes with the Otter Box or you will lose your phone.]
6. You can dial by voice recognition without an app and without setting up keywords in your contacts.
Cons:
1. iTunes is a lousy interface for synchronizing, especially with Outlook.
2. There are all kinds of issues if you try to synchronize Outlook to one computer and music, etc. to another. [It won?t allow you to synchronize Outlook to more than one computer. I couldn?t even get the Internet work-arounds to work.]
3. iTunes does weird stuff when synching Outlook with a second computer. Sometimes it will delete your music and apps, even paid apps. You can restore them but all your data is lost for applications. [I?m still working with Apple to try to resolve these issues and there is hope. I think I?ve resolved the deletion of music and podcasts.]
4. You can?t send an e-mail to a group distribution list without buying an app. Even then you can?t forward an e-mail from someone to a group. You have to type each person?s name. [The Internet work-arounds don?t work. They must have been for a previous OS version.]
5. Syncing with Outlook isn?t great. It does weird things like duplicating entire contacts, duplicating phone/fax numbers within individual contacts.
6. Calendar doesn?t have all the options that Outlook has. For instance, you can?t set up a repeating appoint for the 1st Thursday of each month.
7. It is somewhat large and heavy.
8. Must charge battery at LEAST once per day. I don?t talk much but I do surf the net, play games, etc. It dies on me almost every night. It does give a couple of warnings first, though, which is nice (at 20% and 10% left).
9. I don?t think it is possible to view Flash web pages.
10. I once need a Tab key for website but there is no way to enter a Tab character.
11. The camera is terrible quality. This is the only thing about the hardware that I don?t like. My BlackBerry Pearl picture quality was 10X better.
12. The desktop cannot really be organized, which I find frustrating. You can move icons around from screen to screen very cumbersomely by phone or computer but you can?t create folders for categories like Games, for instance. I have a lot of apps and it can be difficult to find the one I want.

In summary, I consider it to be a TOY and not a TOOL. I replaced a BlackBerry with it. If you want to use it as a TOY to listen to music, read Internet, etc. then you will love it. If you need to use it as a work TOOL then you will be disappointed in many areas. [Note to Apple developers ? It wouldn?t take too much work to catch up to and surpass BlackBerry.]

My brother who also has a learning disability got his iPhone 3G for the reason that it is simple to use and makes his life easier. before he got his iPhone he had a blackberry that just did not work out for him. a good rule to follow when getting a smart phone is that it should be like a good pair of shoes in the sense that it fits your life style needs.

You can always wait for the next great one. If you currently are using pda, get iphone immediately. You can have it now straight from store. If you wait till next 4G you're gonna get into the damn queue and it will be expensive also. Get iPhone now and enjoy it. You can get the new model after a year :)

I completely disagree with hermand. I used Blackberries for work for 3 years. I've had an iPhone now for 2 years. I think the iPhone is definitely a better piece of technology and does almost everything better. But then again, this is all a matter of opinion. I don't use Outlook so I think solves a lot of his complaints. You said you wanted something simple and easy to use anyway.

It seems like hermand got his phone just recently so I just think he hasn't gotten used to the difference in the smartphones. Personally, it took me over 4 months to finally admit that Blackberrys are inferior to iPhones...but it's true! The iPhone is not a "toy".....the iPhone just does what a Blackberry can do PLUS all the fun stuff!

iphone is just the one for pda files. I bet you are going to love it and get pure satisfaction. People loves it's service and also it's great quality. There is doubt about it's durability. Go on.

If I was u I would wait for the next iPhone and if it can't stand next to the nexus 1 than get a n1.
3gs is not remotely on n1 grander level.

Today is always the best time to buy a new iPhone. Once you have one you will probably buy a new one every year or so anyway. The value is in your software, data, and metadata, not the hardware.

I do not think that you will ever regret buying one early but if you regret buying one late, those are days of enjoyment lost that you can never get back.

I don't buy new a phones every year like some blind sheep. I usually wait until there's enough improvements with the new phone vs the one I currently own before I'll upgrade. But if you're one of those people that have more than enough money to blow on what ever new toy Apple releases, more power to you!

Seeing how I own a 3G and skipped the 3Gs, I'm banking that the new phone will have enough improvements to warrant an upgrade. However I do realize that this is pure speculation at this point in time.

There should have been a "Wait and see" choice in this poll.

I do not think that you are as poor as you pretend. Cheap maybe, but not poor.

We do not buy toys because they are cheap or because we are rich. We buy toys because they are toys and we are boys.

Or girls ;) Had to have the new 3GS when it came out. I am not a blind rich sheep, just a girl who likes shiny, new, fun to play with toys :) Can't wait for the next iPhone so I can get that, too!

Me too.

I was in Best Buy yesterday. They had the Apple wireless keyboard. Very thin except for a cylinder along the upper edge for the batteries. It is one of the two keyboards that they offer for the iPad. The other is the docking stand keyboard. When my iPad comes, I plan to take it to the Apple Store and then decide between the two keyboards.

I love all of these elegant toys. If that makes me a "blind sheep," so be it. As to rich, I buy Apple toys with Apple dollars. I hold AAPL stock at $12- and sold some at $200-. By my reckoning, AAPL dollars cost me about $0.06. I may not be rich but I am "comfortable."
