iMore Question

i have been looking for a cheap macbook in so long, i am a student that wants a macbook for school. i found this one ad on craigslist that sells BRAND NEW and cheap macbooks. he was willing to sell one for $800 and 2 for $600 each. i thought it was a good deal. the thing is, he is from a different state and he states that he ships to all 49 other states for free one day air. he doesnt accept paypal. only bank transfer or money gram. but after reading a certain article, i am scared that the macbooks he's selling are stolen. should i buy it or not?

That's a "red flag" for me... I'd never buy from craigslist without using a payment method that gave me an opportunity to recoup my money in the event of an issue.

That's not a red flag. That's a big red flashing light with sirens going off :)

Run like the wind away from this bozo. It's a scam. Guaranteed.

And getting a stolen MBP is the least of your worries... you're not going to get anything of value for your payment. Just run away.

No PayPal with buyers protection, no go.

This sounds like a scam or selling of stolen goods.

You don't see the huge red flag? Craigslist is meant for cash transactions. It has clear warnings on every page telling you NOT to do business with anyone who demands payment via Western Union. I am surprised you have to ask if it's legit. The seller is either going to sell you a box of rocks, take your money and send you nothing, or he is offloading stolen property. Run, don't walk away.

Hell to the no ! I wouldn't purchase anything off of there from out of state. It's a lot of scams that go on there. I posted my note 4 a few weeks ago & received several texts offering me to ship the phone to them in Africa or some crazy place. Then they would pay me through western union smh.
