sending photos

My son and i have both recently got new iphone 4s. He has tried to send me photos as attachements in a text but i'm not getting them.
What are we doing wrong?

What carrier are you on? Is iMessage turned on or off?

If your plan supports MMS they should go thru and as stated above go to Settings>Messages and turn on iMessage on both phones this way you can use wifi to send pictures back and forth
