Safe to insert empty sim tray?

I just sold a Verizon iPhone 5, and would like to keep the sim card. Is it safe to remove the card, and re-insert the empty tray into the phone to ship it?

Yep, the buyer can go to any carrier they wish to use it with and get a SIM

Yes pappy, I have received phones like that with no issues. Also when vzw send out a replacement they too send it with an empty sim tray
