Hello iMore community. I wish to restore my iphone (having problems with tethering). It was jailbroke using GreenPois0n. The original firmware was 4.2.6 8E200 (and still is). I don't know much about the verizon firmware. What would happen if I restored it to a different version?

After restoring, I would like to jailbreak it again.

Basically, what recommendation would you guys have in my situation? I appreciate any help. Thanks in advance. -adabo

if i understand the process correctly you can only restore back the the 4.2.6 firmware (which you currently are on) but that is ONLY if you save your SHSH blobs via iFaith or TinyUmbrella

if you have never been on 5.0.1 then you surely did not save your SHSH blobs for that specific firmware

otherwise, when you go to update or restore--hello 5.1!

BLiNK, thanks for the response. I know I didn't save SHSH blobs because I have no idea what it is. I'm just curious if there is a better version than 4.2.6 that will work on the Verizon phone. Does 5.1 have an untethered jailbreak?

from a stock point of view, personally, i like 5.X better than anything 4.x.x had to offer

regarding jailbreak for 5.1; there is no Untethered jailbreak as of yet. however, there is a Tethered jailbreak (iPhone 4) which i was doing, with SemiTether, but i was having an issue with Activator (not fully compatible w/5.1) so now i am stock 5.1 waiting for the Untethered

maybe it is a good time to take a break from jailbreaking, go to 5.1 stock and wait for the Untethered?

I have no real reason to take a break from jailbreaking :3 It was jailbroke the day I bought it (untethered jailbreak) and haven't touched it since. Almost a year now.

What is life like outside of jailbreak?

haha! well a lot better on 5.x than previous firmwares, that's for sure. for me it seemed like a good time to take a break due to me getting a little burnt out on the whole process. the littlest imperfections are starting to get to me--ranging from a tweak not working properly so a reboot was in order to just a minor flicker or stutter due to a wonky tweak

i have been jailbreaking for as long as i owned an iPhone so its nice to not have to worry about the little things. i know i will jailbreak when/if there is an untethered for 5.1, but for now i am happy stock as well :)

jailbreaking for me is more of a hobby than a necessity, and that's how most should look at it due to the major inconsistency of jailbreaks ( their availability and length of time it takes ) i know the jailbreak faithful would disagree with my theory but that is my take on it
