This is a report which means it’s neither true or untrue.
But the question is why? The A15 is the most powerful common SOC found in a smartphone. More than powerful enough to execute most tasks quickly on a tablet. So why add this substantially big jump in computational power, and at least a baby step in hardware price, by adding M1 to the Air? Air is the mass consumer model.
My best guesses: Either Apple has something (HW,SW or both) coming that will require added computational power and IPad Air will be on the device supported list. Or maybe Apple plans to start using M in anything bigger than iphones (then again, could a pro max fit an M series in it?)?

I love these predictions about Apple’s next big thing, which try to come out of left field with an edgy, but not very practical hypothesis and then defend it with lame justifications.
