Well kind of a slap in the face I pick up a new Apple TV 4
Set it up and then find out the remote app is not supported so typing in iTunes pass codes sucks !!

Apple did this most likely so you use the new remote but why not both options?

Other than that it mostly is just like a 3rd gen except u download apps vs being pre installed and Siri is pretty cool.
The big noticeable difference is that it is way faster .

I hope they allow it in a update

Don't bet on it. Rumor is the Apple TV was ready at WWDC but Apple wanted to try and wait on their unicorn content deals.
Surely it was more work to design a new box than it would be to update the Remote App to work on it.

We shall see soon enough.

I'd be shocked if tvOS 1.1 didn't include this functionality ...

you would think they would have done it before launch lol
i think they did it on purpose so you have to use the new remote.
i am hoping i am wrong

I won't say that thought hadn't crossed my mind, but I just can't see Apple leaving their iOS cash cow out of the loop. I'm predicting something more than just a "remote" app like we've had in the past, but one with Siri integration, home theater control, seamless continuity between tvOS & iOS devices …

I'm hoping it's just taking longer because they are adding CEC support. It's totally doable. The Dish Network apps can do it. They work well too.

Yup! An absolute disgrace. I am returning the 4 ATVs that I bought just because of this. No 3rd party app will work with it now for control.
