Regarding AirDrop, how do I get the person's name on the list?

I want to share a document by using air drop, but when I click on sharing, the only person on the list is not the one I want to share the info with. How do I get the person's name on the list?

Sometimes it takes a few minutes for the recipient's device to show up. Are you certain the other person has Bluetooth and AirDrop enabled?

What device and what iOS does the recipient have?
Do they have AirDrop enabled for you?
Do they have WiFi and Bluetooth enabled?
