Read receipt issue with iMessage

When sending some messages to Android users, it appears my iPhone 6S Plus is requesting read receipts. This usually ends up happening when sending an MMS. Often, I'll get a text saying "Your message to <phone #> has been read. Trouble is, it doesn't seem to happen all the time.

I know about the "Send read receipts" option in Settings > Messages and it's disabled, but that doesn't seem to resolve the issue.

Any ideas? I've also tried disabling/re-enabling MMS.

It's a feature in some Android phones that allow recipients to send read receipts as well (in that form..). I believe it's within the Android Message app (I recall the Note 6 having that feature).

So don't worry, it's not on your side (even if it can quickly become annoying).

However, I'm not sure if only iPhones get them like that, though. It might me more subtle from Android Messages to Android Messages. Probably like a check mark or something (like iPhones show "Read").

Disabling "read receipts" in settlngs only prevents the other person from seeing if you have read their message. It doesn't stop you from seeing if they have read your message.

Interesting that I never really saw this when I had my Android phones.

There's a trick in the messages thread list where you can use 3D Touch to peek at a message without leaving the read receipt. I leave mine on.
