I recently got a Droid on verizon and although i like it, I think i would be much happier with the iphone. I have 30 days to end the contract with verizon, which i have about 2 weeks left of. I called AT&T today and asked if i came over and got the 3GS would they let me trade it in when the 4g was released.

The guy said yes they would. I asked if i could get in writing and he said no but it was standard procedure to allow people who recently purchased an iphone to exchange it for a new one when it is released. I don't really have the luxury of just waiting until the 4g comes out b/c i will be locked in with verizon. Has anyone ever heard of this or is this a case of a salesman just trying to make a sale not matter what he has to say?

I think there's an important distinction that needs to be made here. I think the meaning of "trade-in" for you is different than what the AT&T employee is telling you. It is common practice for people to "upgrade" when a new phone is available. The only way you could "trade-in" your iPhone for the new model would be if you bought your 3GS and then returned it within 30 days for the newer model. I don't think the 4G phone is due for another several months, maybe not even this year, so you may have the chance to "upgrade" your phone at a discounted price once you've been on contract with AT&T for at least a year to receive upgrade eligibility. I hope that makes sense?

I got my 3G in February of last year. I pre-ordered the 3GS the day it was announced (a few months later). They gave me a deal in upgrading for $100.00 over full discounted price. I would imagine you would get the same deal.

Hope that helps.
