Question about iTunes

This question is more about iTunes than the iPhone.

If I have put all my CD's on my computer for my music library, can I just copy those folders/files to a CD (or DVD) and then copy them to my wife's "My Music" folder? Will iTunes recognize and import the songs? Or are the songs somehow "coded" for my computer?

Basically, we are trying to avoid her having to go an import every CD like I did.

You could even make it easier by using an external hard drive or jump drive. The songs are not coded to your iTunes library specifically. The only ones that are account specific are tracks that you have purchased from the iTunes Store.

I think Windows Media Player used to "helpfully" default to DRM'ing your own ripped CDs so you couldn't move them to a new or upgraded machine.

iTunes does no such thing. Rip away, and like jamesus suggests, mass storage is an easy way to move the MP3 or AAC files to your wife's machine.

NB: I'm using MP3 @ 256kbps currently as my preferred ripped-to format for audio (H.264 MP4 for video).
