Ok. A few days ago I noticed that I was not receiving push email to my iPhone. It was working fine and now it just seems to have stopped. When I open mail.app it will check and find all my messages, but I simply love push and hate having to check it manually. Anyway. Here are my options I have selected.

1) I use a Gmail account
2) Fetch new data is set to "push"
3) The fetch underneath is set to "manually"
4) Advance is "fetch"

Now I did a complete restore about half an hour ago. I completely wiped the phone, restored to factory settings and set it up as a new phone. If anyone can please help I really would appreciate it. Thanks.

to be honest the gmail push option is garbage. I have tried using it numerous times and it always works for a bit then just stops working. Its always on and off.

I just set it to normal gmail and use Mail Notifier app. Definitely the best option.

Frankly, I think the whole push concept as implemented by Apple leaves something to be desired. I just had to reset my MobileMe setup on the phone because it wasn't getting push messages. Google Push had problems frequently as well when I used it.

actually, push works quite well.
it's just https.

a bad/misconfigured router is the biggest reason for http connections to fail.

Stupid question I know, but you setup your GMail account as an Exchange account on your phone right?

I disagree. On EDGE or 3G, I've still had issues. No wifi or whatever involved. Removing push configuration and/or the account and re-doing usually fixes it, but that doesn't make me feel confident in its stability. Also, using the "push" system for any third party notification (like task alarms, etc.) is just plain silly. So, I think the implementation itself and dependence on Apple leaves a lot to be desired.
