Preordering iPhone XR tonight, no SIM-free option?

I've saw on the Apple website that there is no SIM-Free option for the XR as of Oct 18th. I am currently on Att prepaid. Would buying the Verizon version of the iPhone XR from Apple work with my current ATT service since I'm not under a contract of any kind and would like the flexibility of choosing between GSM and CDMA service.

If the Verizon model iPhones are still shipped unlocked then yes, it would work on AT&T’s network.
