I was putting a case on my pro max today in bright sunlight and you can clearly see a gap between the glass and the metal band. It’s big enough to collect dust from your pocket.

“Between the glass and metal edge” all around or a specific part? I’m looking to see on my device.

It collects dust, just blow it out with a freon can or air dust gun.
If it's more than dust well maybe personal hygiene is an issue? ;)

There MUST be a gap there. Simple physics at work. If the glass were tight against the metal band there would be lots of frustrated users when their screen glass suddenly shattered/cracked from change in temperature, etc. Also this gap provides better shock resistance from falls/drops.

Wrong. Many phones have had a tiny gasket in that area.
