I ended up not ordering the phone but I did order the 44mm LTE silver aluminum watch. It said it was unavailable in any of the stores in my area and only gave me the choice of having it shipped.

I have one coming from Apple -- one from Verizon. Both I just set to come to the house on Friday since I will be off work (gave myself a 3 day weekend + day off on new phone day) :).

Well my order went super smoothly last night. My order was in by 3:02 am Eastern Time. Will be delivered Friday. Haven't decided if I'll take the day off but I'm at least definitely working from home that day to be home when it arrives.

I set my own hours and I travel, but when not on the road, I work from home. Just made sure I am not traveling on 9/21. I really can't do a pick up, since apple closed the two closest shops. The closest now is about 90-120min away depending on traffic in Seattle at University Place, and that's a madhouse. I don't need that headache.

I have done the pickup in the store routine which it was interesting I can opt to have Fed Ex hold it at the depot for me, get it on my way to work and have it before the Apple Store opens, and I don't have to sit through the rah rah chant when they open.

Another option, for those that don't live close, or have a route to work near the FedEx depot, you can have FedEx drop the package off at a FedEx office or Walgreens store, and pick it up there.

Always a good idea to have it held at a FedEx Kinkos but that can delay the package an extra day depending on when the intercept is done. Every time I tried to have it held at the FedEx Kinkos near me it was going to be an extra day so I figured the hub was worth it, not on my direct route but I can route in that direction heading home or when I am out for client meetings.

My experience with having it held at Walgreens has been good. My experience is, as long as you let FedEx know soon enough, they will deliver it to Walgreens the same day it was supposed to be delivered to your home. I agree, with Kinkos they take an extra day.

I just had a shipment coming from CA to NY, overnight, tried to get Fed Ex to hold at depot, kept telling me delivery manager not available try later, tried 10 times over the night no good. Next morning tried again no luck, I see its due to arrive by 8pm so no problem. Fed Ex tries to deliver at 10:33am, and when I called Fed Ex and told the "automated system" to hold at the depot and it confirmed it, they didn't and tried delivery the next day and fortunately my wife was home. Fed Ex can be hit or miss, but fortunately my success has far outweighed their failures.

I did it. I preordered the 512GB iPhone XS Max for pickup at a Best Buy store on Friday, 9/21. Apparently Note 9s are starting on fire again. Sigh.

That’s too bad. The main reason I do in store pickup is because of the experience. The store I go to does a great job lining people up by their times. Two years ago a woman with an 11 am pickup time showed up at 8 am. She kept getting bumped back and kept expressing her frustration. The staff explained to her that she picked her time and she would only go earlier if there was no one with an earlier time before her.

The store by me isn’t like that. It’s infuriating.

If you are shipping to your home, yes someone needs to be there to sign or you can digitally sign in advance but that is not always recommended given its launch day and people do look for UPS/Fed Ed deliveries to steal. You can arrange to pickup at a UPS/Fed Ex location and get it before Apple even opens the doors for the day.

Fed ex said if I wanna pickup it won’t be until Monday as they need to attempt once. So I’ll be working from home
