I ended up not ordering the phone but I did order the 44mm LTE silver aluminum watch. It said it was unavailable in any of the stores in my area and only gave me the choice of having it shipped.
After more than 15 years covering everything Apple, it’s with a heavy heart we announce that we will no longer be publishing new content on iMore and the iMore forums will be closing as of November 1st, 2024.
I’m going to be sick next Friday.
It’s OK. I’ve got 422 hours of sick leave accumulated. Ppppffftttt....
It's all that Dr. Who In Home Heath Care, keeping you well.

I have done the pickup in the store routine which it was interesting I can opt to have Fed Ex hold it at the depot for me, get it on my way to work and have it before the Apple Store opens, and I don't have to sit through the rah rah chant when they open.
Always a good idea to have it held at a FedEx Kinkos but that can delay the package an extra day depending on when the intercept is done. Every time I tried to have it held at the FedEx Kinkos near me it was going to be an extra day so I figured the hub was worth it, not on my direct route but I can route in that direction heading home or when I am out for client meetings.
That’s too bad. The main reason I do in store pickup is because of the experience. The store I go to does a great job lining people up by their times. Two years ago a woman with an 11 am pickup time showed up at 8 am. She kept getting bumped back and kept expressing her frustration. The staff explained to her that she picked her time and she would only go earlier if there was no one with an earlier time before her.
If you are shipping to your home, yes someone needs to be there to sign or you can digitally sign in advance but that is not always recommended given its launch day and people do look for UPS/Fed Ed deliveries to steal. You can arrange to pickup at a UPS/Fed Ex location and get it before Apple even opens the doors for the day.
