Pre-Order question for AT&T users

I have a question about AT&T and the pre-order process as I have never pre-ordered a device before. AT&T's website is saying if I order today the expected ship date is between Oct 2nd and Oct 9th. Here's my question, if I pre-order, adding another device to my account, is this device added to my account at the time of the order or when it's actually activated? I have asked A&T and get different answers. Sorry for the dumb question! Thanks for any help!

I called AT&T and gave them another chance to explain this process. Guy said the new line will be associated with my account at the time the order is processed, but no charges will start until I activate the phone. So we shall see.

This is correct. You won't be charged until you activate the device.
