This is terrible! However, as I have previously stated in other threads on this subject, it's not an indictment of the AirTag. Rather, it's an indictment of the criminal behavior of the people who are stalking these women.

I have come to see the value of these reports... because they create an awareness. It would be a great service to all of our loved ones if we helped to educate them to be aware of this issue.

It’s unfortunate we have people that will use technology for abusive purposes. But the reality is most technology can be used in negative or even dangerous ways. As has been noted, there are much much better devices to track or unfortunately stalk. For stalking, using AirTag is approaching the level of stupid (though the story of an Apple Watch being used tops the charts). A smartphone, GPS satellites, Bluetooth, even infrared night vision can be used. A sanitized society with all sharp corners being covered with foam is dystopian imho.
There will always be some danger from the criminally inclined to those with deteriorated mental health and how they may use otherwise good technology. The primary goal should to make the penalty the deterrent. It should not be to sanitize from our lives anything that can possibly be used perniciously.
