Hello, I'd like to know if there is any other Media Server that works better than Plex. Basically to be used remotely and across Apple environment.

Thank you.

I use Plex across all my Apple devices. I have yet to find anything better. I use it on my iPhone, iPad, iMac, MBP and TV4. Easy to setup and use. I've never had any issues with it either.

+1 for Plex. It works great on all my devices. There's an app for Android smart TV's as well. It became even better with the ability to download subtitles to match your movies.

Thank you for your answers. How much does it cost (Plex)?.

I use Plex and DS Video, which is the Synology NAS media app. Both are great, but if you don't have a Synology NAS then DS Video won't do you any good.

Another Plex user. I only have a free account so paid for the iOS app but it's on my iPhone and iPad as well as my Roku. Thanks to Apple family sharing it's on my girlfriend's iPhone and my 17 month old son's iPod touch too so he can watch his tv programmes ripped from DVDs

There are several options for a Plex subscription. Monthly, yearly, or lifetime. https://forums.imore.com/e?link=htt...F%2Fwww.plex.tv%2Fplex-pass%2F&token=u_gcg7xB

Thank you for the advice. I think I'll try Plex suscription, monthly. Basically I think subscription is needed for cloud streaming when server is offline. Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

The server has to be on for streaming with paid or free accounts. The media is hosted locally so with the server off line there would be no media to stream

Depends on the size of your library. As mine runs into terabytes I'd need the server on as I'm not paying for that cloud storage to host it and turn off the PC

PLEX eats more battery life on my iPad Pro for each movie so i prefer to buy anything on iTunes these days. and that's it, Cloud is the future.

Is Kodi better... U don't have to use it for pirated use... although thats how it usually is associated with. Their are perfectly legal apps to go for

I have kodi on my fire stick 2. i love it. I prefer it to Plex because plex requires i have a computer running a server. Kodi can simply read my movies and music right off the harddrive i have attached directly into my router. An added bonus because my only desktop computer is ancient and barely competent to run a browser. But I can't comment on Plex on apple platforms. I think use whatever works for you.
