I noticed Uber added this in change notes as 11 was launched. Uber made it like it was their idea, not forced by Apple.

Uber is a terrible company. I’d rather wait longer for a Lyft pickup.

It really isn’t anything new. Apps developers have had the freedom to incorporate this feature for some time. While I wish more would. That is on the developer.
