please help anyone w/iphone experience!

could anyone please help me out. I baught a used 2G 8G jailbreaked/updated with 3.1.2 software. For what I really want to do, I think i may be fine, but maybe i should just get the new 3G 8G for 100 bucks? I'm locked into my Tmobile contract until next year so I'd have to jailbreak it. Any thoughts? HELP!

If you can afford the 3G I'd suggest getting it, The $100 iPhone is with a 2 year AT&T contact.

No, If you want the 3G you can probably get it for $350 on ebay/Craigslist. Yea you can jailbreak/unlock the 3G.

if you get the 3G and put it on tmobile you won't have 3g service.

I know it sounds stupid, but I really don't know much about the iphones. So 3g service is?....I think the girl at tmobile said Iwouldn't get some stuff but I didn't go into details with her. So if I do get the 3G, jailbreak it, and use my tmobile sims card and add the data service, I'll still be missing some stuff? Sorry, I know it's frustrating talking to a newbie ....

The 3G in iPhones doesn't work with the T-Mobile (US) 3G. The benefit of a 3G or 3GS would simply be the updated hardware (GPS, faster processor, memory, etc.)

Clarification: Any iPhone will just make use of T-Mobile's EDGE service only.

Edge means the internet on your iPhone will be slower because you will not be able to use T-Mobile's 3G Speeds.

Got it! Well, that would not be the end of the world for me. I just want the ease of texting the iphone provides and it would be cool to do everything fast,but I've never had a phone with internet before so I guess I would think it's awesome no matter what. That could get old fast! Man, an expensive learning curve for sure. Thanks so much for your help!

Yes, You can still download apps. You will need to make a iTunes Account though.

I don't think visual voicemail will work either on T-mobile, but I may be wrong... Can someone chime in?

its identical and you can use the same apps on your ipod touch for your iphone, you wont need to rebuy them, just use your same itunes account
