Playing scrabble offline

I want to be able to play the scrabble app offline in flight mode but every time I try I just continually get the red sign saying no connection. It’s on an iPhone 7plus.
Anyone have any suggestions? My daughter can play hers on her iPhone 7, so it’s very frustrating!
