It's been 4 months of waiting, but finally, Ping! is now available on the App Store! Finally iPhone-to-iPhone messaging is possible, and this also works with the iPod Touch!

Sorry Gary, no offense to you, but if I'm going to use this like BBM I really would like more info. Security could be a concern.

I'm also curious about some of the security issues. It looks like a great program. I did find one bug though, when in a chat session, the landscape keyboard does not work. If you try, the program stalls out and you cannot type anything until you back out and leave it in portait mode.

One more thing, to make it more like BB messenger, you could have each message marked with a D for data sent, and R for message read. This is one feature I really miss from bb messenger.

If you could give details about the security issues and update the fix the landscape keyboard issue, this could become a huge hit in the iPhone world. I know I would recommend it to my friends.

Of course, there's no way to just add someone. Either you chat with them or not. I still much prefer WhatsApp. At this point I'd rather the entire world just have my phone number.

Exactly. When you SMS or MMS they other party has to have your phone number anyway, so what's the difference?

Plus, WhatsApp is much more polished, imho.

I didn't know about WhatsApp. I do like it a little better than Ping. Thanks for the info!

Ping I can hide my number, just use username to identify them, I don't like giving out my number for security reasons. So I don't know...

Not sure about Ping doing it, but I hear WhatsApp is going both to Blackberry too.
