Photos App on MacBook - Is it garbage?

So I am in the process of transferring my photos library from Google Photos over to iCloud. Its not a huge library about 15GB in total.
I am not doing huge chunks at a time. Downloading from GP, then importing into Photos and they upload into the iCloud.

However, after I let one batch completely upload, and then go to import a second batch, the Photos app always freezes and then I have to force quit.
I mean like EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!!
I have done about 700 photos so far, and I think I am at my limit.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way I can refresh it or something?

Are you on the latest software?
I have never experienced the Photos App freezing when it comes to importing.

Yeah. All updated and good to go.

I’m not sure what’s causing the problem.
Hopefully, someone else can help you out

I might go ahead and un install the Photos app...if that’s possible.
