Phone or Cable?

Ok, so lately I have been having some sync issues. Every time I plug my phone in to my computer to sync I get an message saying either "charging is not supported with this accessory" or "iTunes can not connect to the device". The problem can be resolved by simply un plugging it and plugging it back in however. This also happens when I plug it in to charge with another sync cable plugged into my belkin mini surge protector. I am thinking it is the phone because there is a crack running from the bottom middle to the 32GB logo. It is not worth getting it fixed or anything as I will be getting an iPhone 4 day one. Just wondering your opinion on this.

i cannot remember the guys name or the company name, but there is a guy that is local to Leo Laporte's "TWiT Live" cottage in Petaluma, CA that does inexpensive iPhone repairs, replacing the individual components as needed. I think he quoted a screen replacement at around $70, so a case replacement I would suspect would be lower.

He was on as a guest taking apart an iPhone 4 live on the show during the iPhone 4 release day. I'll dig around and see if i can find the guys name. Not sure if TWiT has posted that event video online yet.

Apple will replace a phone with cracks in the case. Many users here have had that done, assuming Apple doesn't determine it was due to misuse ( dropping it ).

I'd try blowing out the dock connector with compressed air first, make sure there's nothing gunked up on it, and go from there.

Agree with the compressed air. I have fixed my daughter's woes on a number of occasions doing that. She puts her phone in her jeans pocket and the gunk gets in the dock- lint and such. Nothing gross just "stuff". Usually helps.
