Hi,

Do we have anyone here running a Windows 10 or 11 VM with Apple M systems? If so, any regrets doing it with an Air? I prefer the Air weight even though more powerful Pros are here soon.

Thank you.

I have no personal experience with Apple Silicon Macs.

My suspicion, it would benefit from the faster memory and the increased CPU count. It will hurt from the x86 and amd64 emulation on the Windows side, should it even work.

Also, I will note that Microsoft does not support Windows on Apple Silicon. It only means that if you run into trouble, don’t expect Microsoft to help or correct it.

I bought the 13” M1 pro in January 2021 and installed parallels and windows 10 on it. I have since upgraded to parallels 17 and windows 11. I’m on the windows insider program which is almost like Apple’s beta system I think. I haven’t had any problems with it. Parallels pro cost me $100 with free updates. I’m not sure if I have to pay $100 one time or every year. I installed windows just to play a couple of turn based strategy games from Factus Games. That’s it.

I probably could of bought a cheap 13” windows machine to do this but I didn’t want a laptop and a MacBook. Sorry for the long text.

My assumption here is you're running ARM vs Intel Windows with associated compatibility issues. My scenario is a VM to run older Windows software.

Thank you.

I think that’s what I’m running I’m not sure. I haven’t had any compatibility issues that I know of. One of the games is about 2 or 3 years old and the other one is kinda new.

I recently purchased Panzer Corps 2 to run on the windows side. After about an hour of playing my MacBook is getting warm. I have no problem on the Mac OS side but I haven’t been playing games on Mac because I can’t find any that I like. If there is any I use my iPad Pro for them.
