Pairing the Apple Watch to an iPhone

So I was messing with the Apple Watch app last night waiting for the pre-orders to start and noticed that the automatic pairing starts with lining up the watch face on the iPhone's camera (think using the camera to grab an iTunes redemption code off a Starbucks freebie card). How would that practically work to pair the watch to the phone?

No clue- I will wait to find out on the 24th- I am sure it won't be too complicated
