Original Super Mario Bros - Unlimited lives trick

Anyone remember how to get unlimited lives in Super Mario Bros? I seem to recall it was in level 3-1, right at the end staircase. You have to jump on the Koopas in a certain way and you rack up the lives...

Want to give this a shot on my classic. Was never able to do it back when I actually had an NES!!

It'll be hard to describe but I think you're talking about the one where a turtle is coming down the stairs you have to climb in order to jump onto the flagpole.

With that you have to jump on the turtle and keep jumping to continuously bounce him off the back of the step. Takes timing for sure!
