Older Apple TV's not working with the control center widget in iOS11?

I

iMore Question

I can't seem to get the Apple TV remote in iOS11's control center to work with my Apple TV (which is an older one, maybe 4-5 years, black puck version).

It (the widget) gets stuck in "searching"-mode without finding anything.

The normal Apple TV (app)- remote works fine.

Anyone know anything about this?

I’ve been experiencing this issue since Beta 1.

I never got an answer but I’m pretty sure it only works with the 4th Gen Apple TV and above (I have 3rd Gen and it never worked).

I too suspect it is restricted to Apple TV 4th gen. It doesn’t work with my Gen 2 and Gen 3 Apple TVs. Also the iOS11 Control Center widget has a Siri button, and only Gen 4 has Siri.

Yet to find official confirmation though.

After a quick look across the internet, it appears a whole lot of people are having the same problem: Control Center Apple TV widget only working with Apple TV Gen 4.

The strange thing is that the new Remote app, the black one with the Apple TV logo on it, does support my apple TV3.
I also get the unending searching for apple TV when I open the control center one.

I hope they can fix this, because it doesn't bring a unified user experience in this case.
