Notifications on iPhone

Is there a way to retreive/see again notifications which have left the lock screen?

Swipe down from the top of the screen and Notification Center will display. You can see your missed notifications from there.

However; that way I am aware of; I was wondering if after a given period (say a day or more) they were accesable from (their temporary/permanent?) storage site on the phone or iPad?

No, that's not possible.
Once a notification has disappeared you can't view that notification again. It's gone.
