No Service while 3G enabled

I've had this iPhone 3g since July 2008 and had no problems with 3g signal until a few days ago. I get no service if 3g is enabled, get at&t Edge just fine is disabled. Tried hard reset, took it to at&t store-no help there. They suggested doing a "restore" while connected to PC and in iTunes. Will try that this evening at home unless I hear something to the contrary here?

Sounds like a 3G service interruption in your area possibly. If the hard reset doesnt work, bring it into the Apple store and see if they'll replace it. I've been having some weird issues the past 2 weeks where my phone will lose the '3G' symbol, and not switch to wifi. I get no calls in and no data, but can make outgoing calls. A quick flip of airplane mode on and off fixes it. I wish the service would just work and STAY working!

We have had 3G interruption a couple of times in the past and I just turn off the 3G and try it again every couple of hours. Usually it's an AT&T service problem, not the phone.
