new to iphone maybe you can help

Hi. As stated I'm new to iPhone. I have had my iPhone 4 for about a week. This morning a update came out on my iTunes for 4.0.1 i think it said anyway i said. Yes to update. Now my phone is new and not jailbroken the update said unable to update and crashed my phone it also told me to restore it so i did and that crashes my phone. So im a new customer to attention a new phone and new to this iPhone scene and i have barley had time to see what this phone can do. All i see now. Is a black screen and a power USB plug telling me to restore
Any help would. Be appreciated thank you

I would like to help but your post left me confused.

I'll tell you what, there is a search function up in the right hand corner. Plug in the words your looking for help on, like "restore", and see what that brings up.

There is a ton of information on this site, so learning how to navigate the search will be a valuable tool.

Thank you for your help. Yea my post was kinda garbbled because I have to leave for work and I use my phone for work and it was dead. But your info lead me to a troubleshooting page that recommended to re load my computer (a simple fix) so i did and both the restore and the update went smoothly thank you for the help.
