New service Icon

I was in Indiana today and had a new service icon. It looks like a lower case "o". I had full service and the speed seemed to be about like Edge. Normally i have 3G being from st.louis and sometimes Edge. But I haven't come across this icon before. Anybody have a clue as to what it was?

That is GPRS which is SLOWER than EDGE.

Ironically, I was getting that a lot at Macworld in SF!
