new iphone 5s won't mail a photo - took photo then tried to mail it and not received

took photo, when to photo and clicked on envelope with email address and the photo was never received

Welcome to iMore! Do you have an email account set up on your phone? Check your "Sent Items" folder in your mail app and make sure the outgoing email is there and not stuck in Drafts. Make sure you entered the email address correctly. Have the person you sent the photo to check his or her junk mail folder.

It may get stuck in "outbox". I've seen 'em hang there a while.
