It does! However, I use the App/Widget mentioned in this thread and I really like it. For some reason, it gets my attention more than the reminders app or Calendar notifications do.

I like to use the Calendar app because once you add a birthday and set it for yearly and all Day you never have to worry again as long as you back up your device new iPhone generations later and your calendar event is there to remind you.
