Need to split the audio output on the LG Ultrafine 5K display

I've got the display connected to my Mac Pro. Need to split the audio output - Bought audio adapters from both UGreen and Plugable that offered two inputs - one for each headphone jack - then saw I needed to buy a USB-C to USB-A adapter to get it plugged into the back of the LG display. Found on the menu bar where I could select audio to out put to the 'usb device' but can only hear out of one headphone at a time. There are two 'usb device' choices on that dropdown. But that doesn't allow me to share the audio output with my client. Common sense tells me it's the splitter. But why? I've tried both UGreen and Plugable. Neither will split the audio into the 2 separate headphones. What am I missing? Any assistance would be appreciated. I've read thru the owners manual but this isn't addressed.
