Need to delete photos from my ipad, do all indicated steps but the trashcan don't light up

You most likely synced those photos to your iPad using iTunes and will have to remove them by using iTunes and unsyncing them with your iPad. Unless the pictures were taken with your iPad you can not just delete them.
