You may have to un-jailbreak it. I had to do this before too with my phone as I was getting the same screen. I had to reinstall an old OS for it to work again, did it and no probs.

Not sure if this will help or not:
is there another way?
i have never backed the phone up on my laptop
and my cousin who gave it to me has got rid of the computer he used

thanks

Setup a new profile on Windows 7 and plug the phone in - the iTunes app on that profile will have no history of the device (nothing to restore from). It should ask you to set the phone up as a new device.

Damn, i would tell you to go to Apple, but your phone is jail broken so that won't work. I hope everything works out for you! That's why i'm cautious to jail break anything.

Search how to put your phone into DFU mode, it takes awhile but you will eventually get the hang of it. Once you're in DFU mode open iTunes and it will tell you that it found an iPhone in recovery mode. Just click restore and it will start the restore of your phone.

If that doesn't help you CAN take it to the Apple store because they wont be able to get further than this screen. It's the recovery screen and they wont be able to tell it's Jailbroken. You can say you were doing an update and your cable got disconnected during the process or your power died, etc. They will give you a replacement because all they will do is restore it and use it as a replacement phone for someone else.

oh so it's a lost phone? could have had find my iPhone or similar and been wiped remotely? I don't think o2 will activate it on your line anyway as it wasn't yours but not 100% on their rules and regulations

uum , i think you should go into C:/*localdisk or w.e*>Windows > System32> drivers> ect> and open the hosts file with notepad and make sure you have nothing after the stars incase you change it when you backed up your shsh, had the same issue remove it

so your hosts file should look like
# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

Good luck, hope that helps!!

Wait, so your cousin found it and, instead of trying to return it to the rightful owner and purchaser, he kept it? Then gave it to you?

Awesome cousin you've got. :/
