• iPhone 15 : The iPhone 15 makes up for a disappointing iPhone 14. Here's all the details.

My wife wants to upgrade her cell phone. Her iPhone 5 does not back up any more ... too old.

Can he set up a new iPhone from her iPad?

The device is not backing up anymore because it’s too old? Are you sure? Is it possible that it’s not backing up, especially in regard to iCloud, because it has run out of storage space?

If you’re asking if your wife can restore a new iPhone from an iPad backup then the answer is yes, but apps that are iPad-only may not appear on the iPhone.

Sometimes it's nice to restore a device as new. That way you can go back and not install all the stuff you don't use anymore.

Yes on the potential advantages of start new but you still want to know you have photos and personal data backed up. My observation has been Apple Stores have patience and competence a lot of resellers don't have to do a truly good job of jumping from an older phone to new.

One other Apple Store advantage unless the promos stopped is they'll stack trade ins and recycle anything Apple.
