My iPhone displayed a battery charging symbol, but still wouldn’t charge. What should I do?

I’m not saying $50 is irrelevant but are people NOT going to get a battery replaced if they need to because it cost $80 vs $30?

They will. But not if they can get it for $29. Some may upgrade instead if it's $80.

Ledsteplin beat me to it. .......In addition, some would still claim to have been forced to upgrade because the battery in the current phone didn’t last long enough...

Unless the X2 or Xs or X+ is really an upgrade I may keep my phones longer than usual and get my batteries replaced in December if the charge cycles are more than 200 or so.

It runs fine. No fighting, I just have to charge several times a day. I want to wait so the new battery will last longer, as I will keep it and likely use it along with whatever I upgrade to. I have several 32 bit apps I will use on the 6s Plus.
I'm not sure I could drive that far anymore. I'd probably have to get someone to take me. Besides, they don't have anything we don't have, other than an Apple Store. It's aggravating that Apple won't put a store here. There's only 2 stores in the entire state of Alabama.

Luckily I’m kinda right in the middle of both of them . Bham is closer but both aren’t bad for me. Planning on swinging by next time if in bham and letting them change mine on my 6+.
