My iPad images are to big and I can't make them smaller even to put in my password. What should I do?

my ipad images are to big and i can't make them smaller even to put in my password.

My ipad has even timed me out from 1 minute now to 60 minutes. any suggestions. I tried the tap 2 or 3 fingers on the screen but that just does nothing even tries turning it off then on.

Connect the device to iTunes and restore it.
