My iPad Air 2 is stuck in split screen mode (Safari)

For some reason when opening Safari in landscape (how I normally use the iPad), I have the split screen feature enabled. I am trying to disable it , and have tried dragging the centre line across, but that does nothing at all. There is no little grey tab on the centre line either. If I pull down on the top of either the left or right screen, then the whole screen is pulled down.
I have tried a reset (power button & home button), and also tried a full reset within the settings panel, but this hasn't corrected Safari display.
Also disabled multitasking app feature too, but still the same.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

PS My iPad has the latest software

Thanks

Nick

Is it two separate windows or is it just showing your bookmarks on the left? If it's the latter, just tap the bookmarks icon on the top left (it will be highlighted in blue).
