Thinking of getting a mini, it's mosty for the wife...except we are thinking of getting the cellular version.
We often travel with the young grandson and might like to use it in the car for watching a movie kids apps etc.
I have a 4th generation iPad 32 GB (non cullular). Is it too costly data wise to watch a movie via cellular connection?
How much data would a movie be over a 4G connection?

45 minutes of a TV show in HD is roughly just under 1.5GB. your best bet is to get at least a 32GB device, and sync content to it via iTunes rather than stream over cellular. Save the cellular data for email & web surfing when wifi is nonexistent.

So, I download the movie via iTunes to my 32 gb mini. I don't need wi-fi to watch the downloaded movie, I just need it to download, right?
Now, if you have wi-fi and cellular, and are connected via wi-fi does wi-fi supercede cellular? Do you constantly toggle cellular on and off via settings?

Thanks for the help, I don't want to screw this up!

I always turn cellular off when I have wifi because when you not near wifi and not using it the ipad still will use internet for getting email and notifications but wifi will supersede it

If you pay and download a movie in iTunes
You can hook the iPad to iTunes and sync it
You can watch it with no Internet or wifi as its on the device itself

You can also buy a movie directly in iTunes on the iPad or once you buy it in iTunes go to iTunes on iPad and go to purchased section and download it directly to device that way .. But if you use the direct download method make sure your on wifi because one movie is 2 to 4 GB depending if its hd or not and that download would eat up your cellular data
