So I'm in the trial period for MobileMe right now and I have a PC and an iPod touch, I know its not the best combo but I'm getting an iPhone 3G S soon as well as a a mac (hopefully)

My fiance doesn't like the idea of me paying $99 for a syncing service that he could find for free. He also said I don't need to be that precise with my calendar since I am not some sort of high powered business woman.

I like it because I can have everything match up without having to worry about entering it in a few times. plus I'm really looking forward to the find my iphone feature. I just don't understand the idisk yet.

so what do you guys think

MobileMe is a no-brainer for anyone with more than one Mac (I had MobileMe -- then called .Mac -- before there was an iPhone). Mac sync, iDisk, Back to my Mac, etc. can be priceless.

For PC users it is a harder sell. It does still provide Push email, calendaring, and contacts, you have a web-based iDisk and file-sharing, and come iPhone 3.0:

- Find my iPhone, which could be handy in an emergency
- Mobile iDisk client

You can absolute find free or cheaper versions of everything MobileMe does, so the trade off is time and integration. MobileMe does the heavy lifting for you. If you don't mind doing that yourself via free hosted Exchange and a few bucks for some apps if you want to WiFi transfer files, you can go that route too.

Absolutely get it!! It is only $99/year or $8 /month. Don't go to Starbucks once a month and you have paid for it.:D

Seriously..... set up is a breeze. Five minutes and you are up and running. If you have a Mac and you want this type of service, it is a no brainer, IMVHO.

Like Renee said there are other "option" out there for free. From what I have heard they are not that great. They require a lot of "tweeking". If I wanted to "tweek" something I would get a Windows Mobile device and a PC!!:p:rolleyes:

@Brickman yes I agree with him mobile me is that best and other programs will need tweeking also $99 a year is cheap I don't really need to sync my iPhone just to back up but if I did I would use mobile me.

I'm a PC user and love it. It would be better if I had a mac (working on that). You can actually find it on Amazon for $50-$70 bucks, which makes a big difference. I never have to worry about syncing my contacts, calendar and bookmarks (for the web).

Only thing I don't like is that it is web based and looks ugly on PC's. You can actually hook Outlook up, but it never worked too good for me, neither did I take the time to learn it.

I recently signed up for a MobileMe free trial, and I honestly really never used it. I really like the contacts sync, but that was about it. I cancelled before the trial was up so I could preorder the 3GS(trying to live on a budget is hard). I want to give it another try in a few months after I replenish my bank account...maybe I'll just sell my 3G instead of holding on to it.

I'm looking at getting a family pack in a few weeks here when my sub is up as now the g/f wants mobile me lol

Either way - I would probably want to fill the other 3 spots up. So if anyone is interested in trying it or is hesitant about paying that much for a year, it could be a good deal for everyone. I was thinking ~20 bucks a spot. It'll get you 5GB storage and a mobileme e-mail for a year under my account. I'd just register the userID you want, or the one you already have, and voila, cheaper MobileMe for everyone :)

I'll probably renew in a week or so. If anyone's interested, just shoot me a PM.

I really think that mobileme works best if you have other macs. If you just have a iphone it isn't as efficient. It is meant to keep your contacts, calendar, email, and other things synced. PCs don't have the ability to set up an actual disk that you can drag and drop and view anytime. There is a hack to get this by creating a network drive but it isn't efficient and very buggy. But With both my mac and my iphone and the an iphone app i can save anything to my idisk and view it on my iphone or anywhere that has internet access. It is very cool because I often find myself working from home.

I may get MobileMe, but if I do will go through Amazon. Why pay $100 when you can get it for $70? Amazon sells the family pack for $100.

Amazon sells a DVD that is only for Mac OS...nothing for the PC, right?

If I already have a mobileme account (from the free trial) can I use that with the Amazon purchase?

I've been using MobileMe for a while now, and it is one of the reasons I stick with iPhone. Its a hug reason actually. I LOVE the wireless syncing and the push email is amazing. I use the calender to keep up with bills and appointments, so you don't have to be a big executive to need the cslender sync. It's well worth the 100 bucks

I believe you really just need the subscription key and the control panel which comes with itunes

i'm going to try the trial for 30 days. then i'm guessing (since i'm not a Mac owner) that i will simply use Google Sync for my contacts & calendar. i use Posterous for my photos & videos blog. and since i am not going to use an Enterprise/Exchange server for any business email, i don't see the need for me to purchase MobileMe. not like it need immediate syncing throughout my day. would be a 'nice to have' feature, but not necessary.
