I am looking to buy the MagSafe battery pack. To charge the battery pack itself it requires a 20w USB-C power adapter.

Could I use a 30w USB-C power adapter (A2164) or is that not recommended?

According to Apple’s support article, that should work. Emphasis mine.

fully charge it using a Lightning to USB cable with a 20W or higher power adapter.
