MacBook vs iCloud

iMore Question

Hi there guys,
My name is Mike, and I work in a pawn shop. I am wondering if macbooks are locked down to an account like iPhones are. We currently have 2 macbooks for sale, the first one is super- old and need an softwere update / cant even play youtube videos/ but cant be updated since it has an account on it and wants the password, the second one is pro late 2016, and I am actually interested in buying it, however I wanna know if I'd be able to actually use it, so thats pretty much it.
Any help is appreciated!

To answer your question: Yes, they are. Same for iPad and iPod.
So the first laptop is nothing less than a fancy decoration, at this point.

If the second one doesn’t have an iCloud account on it, odds are you’ll be able to use it!

As above. Whilst Apple have made it extremely easy to help protect your stuff they’ve also made it easy to con unknowing buyers out of money by selling a device then locking it
