MacBook Pro graphics lag

I've got a MacBook pro 15'' only 6 months old with 8GB RAM Quad i7 etc but recently with normal usage like iTunes playing and using the web or pages the OS graphics like minimising and exploding the windows with the finger swipe always lag, either it all flickers or just jumps without any graphic, these are pretty minor things but for a powerful piece of kit i don't see why it cant handle what apple put in its operating system. Any ideas as why this could be happening or how to fix it would be appreciated.

It sounds as though you might need a hard reset - press and hold the power button until the screen goes black. Let it sit a while (couple minutes) then turn back on as normal.

Also, you might check how many apps you have open in the background when this happens. Some apps are very demanding behind the scenes and will interfere with normal ops. Such apps would include (but are not limited to) news, weather, sports and such that are constantly updating. Also streaming while doing other activities can bog down your MBP. I've found that what I call "fancy apps" can cause havoc - such as one I had that changed curser behavior. Yet one more possible problelm area would be using apps that duplicate native operations. Too often, conflicts arise that can seriously impact performance. Good luck!

At 6 months old...my suggestion would be to quit trying to diagnose it yourself and take it to an Apple store and let them sort it out for you. Better safe than sorry in the case that you have an issue with hardware causing this glitchy performance and when you reset it, it hibernates for a few months and you end up with the same issue OUT of warranty.

Use...your...warranty. Can't stress that enough. My buddy had his 2012 model start acting up one day and he did PRAM and SMC reset...it started acting just fine again, but a few months down the road, it came back. He did the reset again, and again it started working fine. Turns out, he had an issue internally that was causing updates to send the computer into haywire mode, he didn't find this out though until about 5 months out of his initial Apple Care warranty (and he didn't have an extended warranty). They replaced his logic board, and he had to come out of pocket for a portion of it after they gave him a % off as a courtesy.

I heartily second Sean's recommendation. You have the warranty included in the purchase price... why not take advantage of it? Let Apple find the issue and rectify it with ZERO out of pocket expense...
