Lost in all the iOS 5 hysteria: Still can't have custom notification tones?

The only thing I've been hoping to see in an iOS update since before it was called iOS has been the ability to set a custom tone for SMS. It looks like this may finally be coming true, so I guess we'll just have to play the waiting game.

Hopefully buried in all this is much needed email account specific alert tones and signatures. Or at least stop devs from making decent software to accomplish this.

What sucks is that I'd have to buy new tones. I'd rather make mine custom.

It is easy to do this, PC World has an article on the website about it. Showed up when I googled mp3 iPhone ringtone. You have to convert it in iTunes but it is easy to do.

@NM4M There are tons of threads on creating ringtones.

We are talking iOS 5 specific custom text tones. In the current beta there is a screen where you will eventually be able to purchase text tones, but we don't want to buy them, we want to make our own - we know how to do it, that's not the issue.

Why is every one seemingly so deadset that we can't use our own tones? Has anyone tried the "Buy Tone" button?

I did, and the tone that I purchased did not appear in the text area, so I'm assuming that they're working on this. Funny how everyone is just jumping to conclusions, without substantial evidence...

First of all, you're not the first one to try the Buy Tone button. Second of all, and more importantly, buying tones isn't the same as using our own tones that we have been making and using either as ringtones or as text tones via jailbreak.

We don't want 30 second ringtones for texts. I'm still hoping that the Library button that I referred to (maybe in another thread?) is what will finally allow us to use the ringtones we have in our, well, library.

Yeah, I know this, but the point that I'm making is that if the tones we buy from this button aren't showing up, then why does everyone assume that everything else in that section is working.
