Lost iMessages when Setting up New iPhone XS Max

Hi there, so I was switching over from my I7+ to my ISM tonight while simultaneously imessaging someone. So, part of my chat is on my old phone and part on the new one lol Is there a way to sync the new one to get the missing messages to show so I have the full convo on my ISM??

Yes, Settings, Apple ID (Name area), iCloud and toggle on Messages.

Thank you for your reply. I happened to be at an Apple Store today for a case and talked with a tech. Evidently because I didn't set it up a certain way it's impossible to get them on the new phone. I did it through iTunes and my Messages weren't synced beforehand.

Not too big of a deal, just a frustration.

I had my iMessage upload to iCloud and after change it lost basically all the messages...it said it was still downloading but now that stopped. Anyone have an idea how I can get it to download again
